How to resolve duplicate or unexpected text when making a snip

Why duplicate or unexpected text can appear in a snip when a document has overlapping OCR text layers, and how to fix it with Recognize Text.

Sometimes the OCR from another program, or from scanning a document, adds a text layer on top of the existing text. When this happens, a snip can show the same text twice in the cell.

Why this happens

This issue is caused by Optical Character Recognition from another application adding a new text layer on top of the existing text. Two sets of text end up embedded in the document even when only one is visible, so a snip can capture both. You can see examples of duplicate or unexpected text below.

How to resolve it

Click the Recognize Text button in the DataSnipper ribbon, and make sure Recognize and overwrite previous text is selected. This option is selected automatically from v3 or later.
