Some PDFs can cause errors in DataSnipper because of how they were produced, including hidden data, metadata, or security settings. This article explains how to resolve those edge cases.
Not all PDFs are produced the same way, and different information can be encoded depending on how a PDF is created. Occasionally you may encounter a PDF that produces an error message when DataSnipper tries to process it.
Resolving the error message
If you encounter an error with a particular PDF, try the following in Adobe Acrobat.
1. Print the PDF to a new PDF file. In Acrobat, select File, then Print, then choose Adobe PDF or Microsoft Print to PDF from the drop-down.
2. Use Acrobat's Sanitize Document option to remove hidden data and metadata, which can improve machine readability.
3. Use the Advanced Optimization tool to remove unwanted or unnecessary information that may stop the PDF processing correctly.
In the Advanced Optimization window, consider the Discard Objects, Discard User Data, and Clean Up tabs.
4. After running these steps, print the file to a new PDF so the information is re-encoded in a fresh file, which also preserves the original copy.
These steps should let you work with your PDF in DataSnipper. If you still have issues with a particular document, contact support at [email protected].
