DataSnipper lets you deploy Text Recognition (OCR) on your private Azure tenant. This guide helps your Azure administrator create the resource. Once done, send DataSnipper the resource key and endpoint, and DataSnipper compiles a company-specific installation package for your users.
Introduction
If you would like to run Text Recognition within your own Azure tenant, follow the steps below. Once complete, send your Azure resource key and endpoint to DataSnipper, which will compile them into a company-specific installation package to deploy to your users.
Data, privacy, and security
After the company-specific installation package is installed, all data stays within the company network. Data stays local when snipping in your workbooks and within your private Azure tenant during text recognition. To learn more, read the Microsoft documentation on the data, privacy, and security of Azure Text Recognition.
To request an Azure key and endpoint for your organisation, you need your Azure IT administrator. The instructions below will help them configure an Azure endpoint for Text Recognition.
Request the Azure key and endpoint
1. Sign in to the Azure portal and click Create a resource.
2. Search for Azure AI Services.
3. Click Azure AI services, then click Create.
4. Create the resource in the correct region. Select the S0 pricing tier. The free tier is not compatible with DataSnipper.
5. Once the resource has loaded, click Go to resource.
6. Find the details under the Keys and Endpoint menu. Send DataSnipper Key 1 or Key 2 (either is fine) and the endpoint. DataSnipper will then create a company-specific installation package with Text Recognition enabled.
Integration into the DataSnipper installation package
Share your Azure key and endpoint with your Customer Success Manager. You will receive the latest DataSnipper installer with Text Recognition enabled. Once installed, it is strongly recommended to validate the functionality of Text Recognition to ensure a smooth experience.
Note
By design, DataSnipper does not provide instructions for configuring security, proxies, or other advanced networking concepts. These fall under your internal IT team if you choose a bespoke setup. For Azure OCR container deployment, basic outline documentation is available on request, but DataSnipper does not directly support the deployment or configuration of these containers.
