DataSnipper v6 and later (including v25 and v26) use a new storage method for snips and imported documents. If your team includes users on earlier versions, Version Compatibility lets you share workbooks across both.
New data storage in v6
DataSnipper v6 introduced a faster, more reliable way to store snips and imported documents. When you first open a workbook created in an earlier version, DataSnipper prompts you to convert it to the new storage format. This one-time conversion only needs to happen once per workbook.
After conversion, you can see changes made by collaborators in real time. It is strongly recommended to store workbooks and source documents in a shared SharePoint folder to enable seamless collaboration.
Compatibility across versions
With Version Compatibility, users on v6 and later can access workbooks created by team members on earlier versions, including imported documents, cross-referenced data, and modified snips, without any data loss.
When a v6+ user opens an earlier version workbook in read-only mode, a prompt appears offering to update the workbook to unlock full functionality. Clicking Update now converts the workbook immediately.
Sharing a v6 workbook with users on earlier versions
To share a v6+ workbook with someone on v5.1 or earlier:
Save the workbook.
Click Convert the file to old version in the DataSnipper ribbon.
A confirmation message appears once the conversion is complete.
The converted file gives users on earlier versions access to imported documents, cross-referenced data, and modified snips.
Note: the Convert file to old version button only appears in v6.0 and later. If you are on an earlier version, you can share your workbook without any additional steps.
