Learn how to use DataSnipper to reconcile a trial balance to financial statements using Table Snip and Document Matching. This procedure applies to DataSnipper v5.0 or later.
Video walkthrough
What the video covers
The walkthrough shows extracting a multi-page trial balance with Table Snip, summarising it to financial statement line item level with a pivot table, and matching that summary against the annual report with Document Matching, using a threshold to absorb rounding differences.
Prerequisites
DataSnipper v5.0 or later
Trial balance in tabular format
Financial statements
Start the procedure
1. Import the trial balance and the financial statements into DataSnipper.
2. Use Table Snip to extract the headings and tabular data from the first page of the trial balance. Click the three dots in the Snip to repeat it for the remaining pages, then edit your table as needed.
3. Once the trial balance data is extracted, create a pivot table to summarise it at the financial statement line item level.
4. Create a folder in the Document Organizer for the annual report.
5. Click Document Matching and Start new Document Matching, then select your trial balance summary as the sample data.
6. Select Use document folders and check the annual report folder.
7. Cross-check the output columns and adjust them to your procedure.
8. Use the Advanced Document Matching options to set a threshold amount of 1 to account for rounding differences.
9. Click Match all rows. DataSnipper matches the input and output columns automatically, and you can then review the result by moving through the snipped cells.
